As a lover of fine mexican cuisine, pool parties, and dive bars, I am always on the hunt for a better tequila. My journey with the G-Lodge recently led me to a unique opportunity in which I, along with the lodge crew, was able to sample and critique one of Jalisco’s finest brands. Casa Noble tequila boasts a rustic palette of flavors suitable for any occassion. In my opinion, you could see their iconic silver tops being popped off anywhere from El Presidente’s daughter’s wedding, to a college mansion party. Last week, thanks to fate itself, we found ourselves atop West Hollywood’s “Mexico Restaurante y Barra” in the middle of an exclusive G-Lodge x Casa Noble tasting. Good thing R. Fontana was there to capture the moment…


Crystal (Not Aged)

Complexity –
With a simple citrus flavor and legs that last for about 7 seconds, this “silver” tequila stands out from the rest.
Smoothness - 
The crystal has a slight burn, but it is definitely a good burn.
Aftertaste - 
Slightly smokey aftertaste with a good coat on the throat.
Packaging - 
The clear, heavy bottle lends itself to an iconic image and a classic appeal.
Aroma –  
Everyone agrees that the citrusy aroma is enticing, but could be more powerful.


Reposado (Aged 364 Days)

        Complexity –
With slightly heavier legs, the reposado boasts a smooth hint of vanilla.
Smoothness - 
Especially for a reposado, this tequila is surprisingly smooth.
             Aftertaste -
While the aftertaste doesn’t last very long, the intensity of pepper and spices is invigorating.
  Packaging - 
The unique amber color of this bottle was especially noticeable in the light. Beautiful seal.
   Aroma - 
The scent of the reposado is floral at times with a hint of citrus.


Añejo (Aged 2+ Years)

                     Complexity -
The añejo features thinner legs and a robust flavor.
Smoothness - 
Not as smooth as the others, but delicious nonetheless.
          ;Aftertaste - 
Spicy, thick, full-bodied, and with a hint of caramel. Very complex.
                       Packaging - 
With a unique, dark-purple bottle, there is definitely a “cool factor”.
     Aroma - 
The scent of the añejo is not for the weak. Hints of smoke and pepper are noticeable.

With an incredible array of sweet and spicy flavors coupled with a smooth and exotic scent, it is no surprise that the Casa Noble legacy has been in the making since the mid-1700s. Their own 3000-acre agave fields rest in the hills of Tequila, Jalisco, mere miles away from the distilary in which this gentleman’s drink is produced. I was recently given advice from a mentor to “play to my strengths”. I think it’s pretty clear that  the owners of Casa Noble have been doing that since they began over 300 years ago…
